What just happened? Hurricane Helene became the deadliest hurricane to hit the US mainland since Katrina. Hurricane Helene struck on Sep 26, and AT LEAST 223 persons have died, hundreds are unaccounted for, some residents and communities are isolated, and hundreds of thousands are without power from the destruction wrought by Hurricane Helene. Every month, Fairfax Lions pick up hundreds of pairs of donated used eyeglasses. The eyeglasses are cleaned, inspected, sorted by correction, and given to medical mission teams going around the world with “The Gift of Sight.” The processing is done at the Northern VA Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.
