Fairfax Lions – 73Years Serving Fairfax Community

Posted on April 15, 2024Comments are off

On April 14th, FX Lions Club celebrated its 73rd year. A new member was inducted into the Club, and we enjoyed a wonderful talk by the senior Lion officer in the area (Governor of Lions District 24L) who presented awards to several Lions for their length of service…longest was to Lion Harry Parker (a past Governor’s Council Chair) for his 45 years as a Lion. It was a most enjoyable evening event at the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club.

Fairfax Lions have a great time serving their community; contact us any time to arrange a visit to see what we do. You can join us! Email us: info@fairfaxlions.org. or leave a message:  703-879-5795

Fairfax Lions participated in a Blood Drive hosted by Providence Presbyterian Church on April 4th.  The Lions assisted the American Red Cross in registering donors at the door while Lions Scott Dulvaney, Mike Greeley, and Corey Green rolled up their sleeves and donated blood.  Thanks to Providence Presbyterian Church for hosting the event which drew 28 donors and 28 “good units” of life saving blood.

Vision Screen – PreSchool Children

Fairfax Host Lions Club screened children’s vision on April 11 & 12 at Fairfax United Methodist Church Preschool.  We screened 22 students, aged 3-5.  Only one student needed to be referred to an optometrist for further testing.  Four Lions served each day…participating Lions:  Mike Greeley, Joe Breda, Joe Rovansek, Gordon Tillery, Harry Pontius, and Marty Lockard.  Working with the youngsters is always fun, and it is a great service – assuring the children can properly see (or need to see a professional for vision correction), before they advance in school.

Screening Pre-School staff members is an added service!

Accompanying Lions vision Screening, was Laura Lynch of Fairfax County Health Department. She screened hearing of pre-schoolers. That FX County office goes to preschools (public and private) to provide free hearing and/or speech screenings to make sure children receive recommended speech & hearing services before going to kindergarten…a great compliment for Lions Vision Screening!!!
