Lions Deliver Holiday Food Baskets

Posted on December 22, 2018Comments are off

On Dec 20 the Fairfax Lions Club delivered 25 food baskets to the Main Street Child Development Center (CDC) in Fairfax City.  CDC serves children from many low-income families – in need of life’s basic necessities.  Food baskets included a $25 Safeway gift card along with corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, flour, sugar, Gala apples, potatoes, carrots, cake mix, and fresh Florida oranges and grapefruit.

Our Lions Club partnership with the CDC works smoothly and is an effective way to distribute ingredients for holiday meals to deserving families.  Lions are proud to serve members of our community!

Thank YOU for Supporting Our Fund Raiser

Fairfax Lions concluded a successful December fruit sale; every penny of proceeds went directly to our charity programs.  We had ordered more fruit than usual, and has lots of rain – especially on Saturday.  But that did not deter YOU from coming to our sale.  Customers included an elderly lady who purchased just a few oranges, and a local businessman who purchased 29 cases of oranges – one for each of his 29 employees.  We THANK YOU ALL for supporting Lions charity programs.

Next fruit sale March 14-16, 2019. Sign up for coupon at https://www.fairfaxlions.org/citrus-sale-notification/

Providing Warmth and Care to the Homeless

Posted on December 7, 2018Comments are off

Winter in Northern Virginia is always a challenging time of the year, especially for those who are experiencing chronic homelessness. The Lamb Center, in Fairfax City, provides important services to drop-in guests needing food, a hot shower, clean clothes and much, much more. Warm thermal underwear is one of the most-needed clothing items at the Lamb Center.

Recognizing this need for thermal underwear, the Fairfax Lions Club went into action. A total of 21 sets (tops and bottoms) for both men and women were purchased and delivered to the Lamb Center by Lions on November 20th. As freezing temperatures were in the immediate forecast, the Lamb Center Director of Operations, accepted the thermals and began distributing them that very same day.
